Welcome[edit]

Hello! Thank you for creating Stratford (Australia). That's a great start to the article. Welcome to Wikivoyage. I hope that you'll keep sharing information with fellow travellers through this project.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines, style, and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you need help, post a question in the Arrivals lounge.

I've tidied up a few formatting issues to bring it in line with Wikivoyage:Manual of style, but it's already in really good shape, so I've upgraded it from "outline" to "usable". Thanks again for being a part of Wikivoyage! Please ask any questions you have. Ground Zero (talk) 23:40, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help! I'll take a look at the links you've provided, and hopefully I'll be able to contribute to this more. --LivelyRatification (talk) 00:54, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An award for you[edit]

The Wikivoyage Barncompass
For your excellent work expanding our coverage of Australian destinations. Ground Zero (talk) 02:31, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I heartily second this! I'm very tempted to make you an Autopatroller (meaning that your edits wouldn't need to be patrolled by the WV:Recent changes patrol) because your edits are trusted, and the only thing that's stopping me so far is that you've been on this site for only a few weeks! Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:37, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Man, I've got to say, WV would be totally different without you. Considering your massive improvements of Victorian articles, Australia's mostly good articles would either be in WA or NSW (thanks to User:KevRobbAU). Similar things would happen if User:Ikan Kekek weren't here to guide me through my first month of editing on WV and especially to User:DaGizza who had instantly blocked User:ThePikerWorm on my first day here at WV. Tbh, I was kinda shocked about what happened to my work on Grand Pacific Drive when after I published my work, I saw this "this place has no roads and is very boring to look at, the best thing in the city was its discount socks." by the infamous User:ThePikerWorm. And WV would definitely be different with User:LPfi when they took action when I caught traveloca red-handed, which copied the entire Wikivoyage off (to this day, they still have their site up [1]) as well as edit northern Eurpean articles. And not to miss User:ThunderingTyphoons!, User:Pashley and User:Ground Zero for their janitorial work as well as assisting new editors like me (even though I edited WP unregistered for many years so I'm not sure if that counts). Finally, there's also user:Vaticidalprophet who currently is also involved in high amounts of editing Victorian articles.
So to all these truly magnificent editors, I truly thank you as WikiVoyage would be totally different without you all, and I hope you all have a good Easter and for User:DaGizza and all Victorian editors who'd be getting heavy rain in the next few days, stay safe from the floods and for everyone else, stay Covid safe. :) SHB2000 (talk) 10:09, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you don't mind me sticking my nose in here. It is really good to see so many active Australian editors. And I say this out of self-interest as I want to take a lengthy trip to Australia in the coming years, so improvements in the coverage of Australian destinations and topics will benefit me directly. Might you consider reactivating Wikivoyage:Australia Expedition? There are quite a lot of Australian articles at the Outline level. Working to improve them to usable would benefit future visitors like me. Ground Zero (talk) 13:02, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you folks have added so much great content in such a short time, it's truly amazing! If you ever run out of Australian content to add, if any of you know places in PNG, Indonesia, Solomon Islands or what have you, there's a lot of area that could use new or improved coverage. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:17, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be interested in reactivating the project. At the moment I'm focusing on upgrading/creating pages to at least usable status in the Gippsland area. --LivelyRatification (talk) 19:16, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What's really needed is an editor from Western Australia. People from either end rarely go to the other side but have been to 60 ish countries. I'm pretty sure User:JarrahTree might have some knowledge about WA as they are from Perth. (See Wikivoyagers by location) SHB2000 (talk) 20:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikan Kekek: I have to say, three isn't a lot. And I only expected to surpass my 1000th edit by October. But no, I've passed my 2500th (both WP and WV) and additionally, I'm hoping to create more South Australian articles. SHB2000 (talk) 05:44, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Too much knowledge unfortunately for WA and TAS, someone rang? JarrahTree (talk) 12:11, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you JarrahTree but logged out? SHB2000 (talk) 08:45, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
that was the problem had a very scary problem where it seemed I had been locked out JarrahTree (talk) 12:11, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JarrahTree, by looking @ Wikivoyagers by location, you are the only editor from WA that I know. Currently, there's been new articles all over the east coast but very few in WA and none in TAS. Thought you might know a bit more. SHB2000 (talk) 05:17, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An aussie award for you![edit]

The Aussie Barncompass
For your great work on editing Victorian articles. Wikivoyage would be so much different without you. And I hope Stratford becomes the first city/town article to become star on the south/east coast. --SHB2000 (talk) 10:14, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks mate -- working on it, and I'll be going on a trip at the start of April so hopefully it can be improved then. Really appreciate this award! --LivelyRatification (talk) 11:32, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No worries mate. SHB2000 (talk) 11:53, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An award for you![edit]

The Aussie Barncompass
For making Yarragon and plenty of other Victorian articles in the Gippsland area better. Hope I can use these when I next go there --SHB2000 (talk) 09:55, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! --LivelyRatification (talk) 10:11, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
These articles would mean that I have to do no research or anything. SHB2000 (talk) 10:19, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Horsham[edit]

Bit outside of your current range, but because I've currently been working on western Victoria/towns between Adelaide and Melbourne, I'm wondering about Horsham (Victoria) being a redlink. It's a fairly sizable town, and I'm sure there must be something there of interest, but while I have friends from it and have travelled through it plenty I've never actually been there. Would you know of anything that could build it up into an article? Vaticidalprophet (talk) 00:48, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've never been to Horsham either unfortunately. From what I know about it there's probably enough article material, but I don't know all that much. --LivelyRatification (talk) 00:59, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Vaticidalprophet:, I'll do some research on it like what I'm doing with Warragul. Note that I'm happy to edit anywhere in the eastern 4 states (Qld, NSW, SA and VIC). SHB2000 (talk) 05:14, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Started it, though I may need the help of you for bus and train. SHB2000 (talk) 10:30, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do you make maps[edit]

Hi there, do you know how to make maps? I was looking for a map that I can put in Innamincka similar to the map in Kununurra or Stratford (Australia) but don't know how to make it. Do you know how to?

Thanks, SHB2000 (talk) 07:09, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There's a helpful guide at Wikivoyage:How to draw static maps. --LivelyRatification (talk) 07:59, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks mate :) SHB2000 (talk) 08:41, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gippsland Itinerary potential?[edit]

Hi there, it's me again.

Just wanted to ask if you could help me create a potential itinerary on [[<no. of days> of driving in Gippsland]], which should give voyagers a good idea of where they're going and give travellers a clue on where they're going?

What's your thoughts?

Anyway, stay warmed up with the cold front coming (20˚ is cold, isn't it). SHB2000 (talk) 13:10, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! --LivelyRatification (talk) 21:26, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, how's the weather been for you? SHB2000 (talk) 21:49, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty good lately, though rain is probably coming soon. --LivelyRatification (talk) 21:57, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm actually surprised that 18˚ isn't cold for any Victorian. And then there's me who finds 21˚ cold :( SHB2000 (talk) 22:27, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway back to what I was going to ask, should it be a loop or have a different start and finish point. I'd preferably like to start at Melbourne or Lakes Entrance, but does the Gippsland area go to Orbost or does it end at Lakes Entrance. SHB2000 (talk) 22:29, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gippsland goes all the way up to the NSW border I believe. --LivelyRatification (talk) 23:25, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, I thought it was the Snowy region east of Lakes Entrance. SHB2000 (talk) 23:54, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stratford[edit]

Just wanted to say, that article is insanely good considering you've been here, what, three weeks? You even made a custom static map from scratch. More of the same please, when you get the chance!--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 19:14, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I've been meaning to make some more improvements as my holiday is winding up. I've spent a few days in Sale as well so I'll probably work on improving that soon. --LivelyRatification (talk) 20:40, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How much can I buy Sale for. Is it on a discount? ;) SHB2000 (talk) 11:28, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── On Stratford, it's featured on the discover section of the main page today, or more specifically, the Knob Reserve bit :) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:22, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatroller[edit]

I think you probably hold the record for soonest promotion to autopatroller of anyone who isn't an admin on some other wiki (or at least I don't know of your being such). You've edited here for less than 2 months, but it's really a waste of time to patrol your edits, as you're one of the best content-providers on the site at this point. Keep going, and don't get too swelled a head. :-)

Best regards,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:12, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. --LivelyRatification (talk) 05:44, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:51, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I just sometimes click the "mark as patrolled" button even though I'm meant to check it, but since your so trustworthy, I don't even check it (along with KevRobbSCO's edits to his own sandbox). Anyway, how was your trip to Sale, Stratford and other places in Gippsland? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 07:44, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Went pretty well. Had a nice time there and was able to visit some other towns as well like Maffra. --LivelyRatification (talk) 12:09, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maffra's a nice place. Went there last summer. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 06:27, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Australian Phone Numbers[edit]

Hi Alison, since the discussion at the pub's getting a bit clogged up, I might as well explain everything here.

So in this example, I'll use the following phone number. Please note it is a valid phone number located in Karratha:

+61891431909

So I did a test as well (not to this number) to see what'll happen with or without the zero.

1. Not including the zero won't work in Australia domestically (e.g 891431909 wont work, but 0891431909 would)

2. Using domestic format on an international number won't work but it will work the other way (int'l format domestically)

3. Removing the zero on an int'l format is ideal.

This might sound confusing, but it's definitely less confusing than our time zones. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:28, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, think I get it now. Very confusing but appreciate the explanation! --LivelyRatification (talk) 08:38, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
At least not as confusing as +1 or Australian Time zones. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:40, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Docent[edit]

Hey there, you sure seem to know a lot about the Gippsland area, have you considered becoming a Docent? After all, someone might be looking for an overly specific question that may be too specific to be answered or be put in an article. Thanks, --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 07:17, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't know of this. Seems like a great idea! --LivelyRatification (talk) 08:10, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I might just put myself forward for Stratford. I don't think that I really have "insider knowledge" about Gippsland as a whole, at least not yet. --LivelyRatification (talk) 08:14, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, a future star article will largely benefit having a docent. Don't forget to add a section of your userpage though. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:19, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, off topic to docent, but could you please share your opinion in Talk:Jervis Bay? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:26, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know of any funny place names in the Gippsland or Eastern Victoria?[edit]

Hi there, having edited Places_with_unusual_names#Victoria recently, I've not been able to find some funny place names in the Gippsland Region, and since that's your area of expertise, do you know of any? (except Upendown) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 06:15, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

W:Suggan Buggan might qualify, brings a smile onto my face. Nothing immediately pops into my head other than that, though. --LivelyRatification (talk) 06:36, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And Creamy Creek. Looking at how much I added to the NSW section, I don't know how the GNB approved these names. Some of them sound funny like "Goodnight Goodnight", some are just hard to say. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 06:39, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But do you know of any others, not in the Gippsland region? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:06, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
None that aren't already there. --LivelyRatification (talk) 11:10, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've done a bit too much research to find so many. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:17, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mallacoota - article potential[edit]

Hi there, just asking if you'd mind helping me out with Mallacoota. I've always wanted to create this for some time, and I think it's the only town in the Gippsland region that doesn't have an article, at least at the time I've wrote this. I might've created it when you see this message, but it'll probably be a stub. I've visited this place last December, on a cold 6˚ day but I don't know too much about it though. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:11, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Would love to help. I'll try looking for some listings tomorrow, maybe focusing on just "Sleep" to avoid conflicting edits --LivelyRatification (talk) 11:20, 9 May 2021 (UTC).[reply]
I believe that basically we have a second complete region in Australia - after Mallacoota. Although there are some small towns like Bemm River or Marlo; Mallacoota is the last major town left to be done. Have to say, the Gippsland region is in a much better status that it was originally (around ish when I joined wikivoyage - although i didn't look into too much detail when i came). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:27, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations![edit]

Hey there, I've now promoted Stratford to a star status, and it's now on Star articles. Looking good so far, and also our first Australian -not western Australian star article. As far as I can tell, you've put a lot of effort and hard work into this, and it's paid off well. All the best! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:48, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen! Really happy, and thanks for your kind words :) --LivelyRatification (talk) 08:51, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you're interested to add this on your userpage, there's an article status template that 82 has made. Just use User:82.3.185.12/Article status - which both 82 and I have used on our userpages (though we both did copy the idea off your userpage) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:54, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to ask you whether trains run to the Yarra Valley from Melbourne? A search result only comes up with the historic railway in Healesville. Since you've a lot more knowledge about V/line (infact I have none apart from they go to Mt. Gambier in the west and Bairnsdale in the east) and I thought you might know if they do or not. Thanks! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 13:50, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

From what I know, I don't think so. This map isn't comprehensive for coaches, but it does cover all the train stops for V/Line, and it doesn't seem to stop that much in the Yarra Valley. If I recall correctly, Belgrave is part of the metro network, but otherwise no current destinations have train stops. --LivelyRatification (talk) 20:18, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's a nice map and definitely better than the Intercity Sydney one. So is Ringwood, and Mt. Buller not part of Yarra Valley? Or do they belong in the Gippsland region? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 22:18, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ringwood is Melbourne and Mount Buller is High Country, I believe. --LivelyRatification (talk) 22:46, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
:) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 22:47, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just asking you this question since you're from Melbourne yourself, but how notable is Lysterfield, and what is it known for? Because the lead paragraph says it's in Melbourne, but the {{IsPartOf}} says it's in the Yarra Valley. Because usually, I've never seen a suburb get it's own article (although there are some notable ones like La Perouse in Sydney) and this one is quite new to me. And finally, should I redirect it to the Yarra Valley article if it's not notable. Thanks! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 03:39, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd redirect it, it's a suburb of Melbourne. --LivelyRatification (talk) 03:50, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To Melbourne/Eastern suburbs or Yarra Valley? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 04:09, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Eastern suburbs. --LivelyRatification (talk) 05:08, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed today that your name wasn't there on the members list, and thought whether you may not be aware of it. It's basically just an expedition to get all articles to usable. All the best! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 01:47, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mornington Peninsula[edit]

So having just done some research, it seems that Mornington is just a suburb of Melbourne but in the region of Mornington Peninsula according to Wikipedia which says the following.

Mornington is a suburb of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia, located 57 km (35 mi) south of Melbourne's central business district. It is in the local government area of the Shire of Mornington Peninsula.

It seems confusing to me. But it seems like there's an inconsistency on Wikipedia though. But thanks for your input in Talk:Mornington Peninsula.

All the best, --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:20, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mornington the suburb is a bit closer to Melbourne, but if you go further down the peninsula to places like Rye, Rosebud, Sorrento, Portsea, etc, I think you'd have a hard time calling those Melbourne. It does seem a bit small to be a region to me, but it is a pretty popular tourist destination and I don't think you could just plop it in Gippsland or Melbourne, so I think region's the best solution --LivelyRatification (talk) 03:26, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Very true. Considering no one calls Geelong and Torquay as part of Melbourne. Although Mornington Peninsula does remind me of two unusual things (Dan Andrews falling and breaking his bones and Tones and I) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:39, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

V line train routes[edit]

Just in the process of making Template:V line and I just wanted to check whether I've missed any routes:

Albury, Ararat, Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Bendigo, Echuca, Geelong, Maryborough, Seymour, Shepparton, Swan Hill, Traralgon, Warrnambool

Thanks, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 03:23, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing off the top of my head, nope. Looks good! --LivelyRatification (talk) 07:35, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thx. :) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:40, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gippsland now all usable[edit]

Just letting you know that the final Gippsland article has been upgraded to usable now. Thanks for all the work you've put in :-) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:24, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know - lockdown has sort of blunted my enthusiasm for travel content for obvious reasons, but I do hope I'll be able to add to some of these articles sooner rather than later! --LivelyRatification (talk) 12:28, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely. It got to a point where I rather did translations on the French Wikivoyage instead of doing my usual activity here. Might translate Stratford (Victoria) there soon though, but maybe after Hobart as there's still no article for Hobart there yet (which is rather unusual, as there's an article there for Menzies, which is in the middle of nowhere). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:37, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
