Hello, Mrkstvns! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.AHeneen (talk) 04:51, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Get out"[edit]

We haven't used that section title in many years. Is the Paquime article copied from Wikitravel? If not, please look at Wikivoyage:Park article template and copy all missing code and section titles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:17, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it was copied. I noticed the Paquime link was empty here, and I'd authored the original content on wikitravel, so figured that I'd move it here and make updates here instead of on wikitravel. I'll check out the article template and adjust things appropriately. Regards,

It's greatly discouraged to copy things verbatim from Wikitravel, even though you wrote the article there; background at Wikivoyage and Wikitravel. However, if you substantially rephrase things and note on the article's talk page that you authored the analogous page on Wikitravel and started this page with the same content, you would at least satisfy the requirements of Creative Commons. Other users may have other things to say - we normally delete articles copied from Wikitravel on sight.
Best,

The don't tout guidelines[edit]

I had to revert this edit. Please read Wikivoyage:Don't tout and edit accordingly. Thanks a lot. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:09, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've cut back on the descriptive text. Mrkstvns (talk) 19:38, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Baja Ferries Pichilingue gps points to US[edit]

Hi.

I noticed that you added Baja Ferries Pichilingue to La Paz.

Great, however, gps that you set points to US not La Paz, which makes the map with the pins zoom out to include your pin.

Could you fix the gps of for this topic. Or remove it if the gps is outside La Paz. A-bentofreire (talk) 12:25, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I took a look at the La Paz topic and the map looks okay. It shows Pichilingue just north of La Paz, which is right. I tried removing the marker, but the map still scales the same. Not sure what you're seeing on your end, but the map looks okay to me. Feel free to play with it though if you can improve it. Mrkstvns (talk) 17:18, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If the map shows the wrong area for whatever reason, adding coordinates (e.g. directly from the {{geo}}, i.e. without "lat=" and "long=") and zoom ("zoom=10" or the like) gets it to show what you want, regardless of where the markers are. Zoom out to see markers with (wrong) coordinates pointing to elsewhere in the world. –LPfi (talk) 09:03, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I just don't understand maps well enough, but I'm not understanding what y'all are telling me. Is there something wrong with any of the GPS points that I've used? I still don't see how the maps are displaying wrong for anyone. I tried zooming out, as LPfi suggests, and it still looks to me like everything is clustered close to La Paz with nothing appearing in the US. Mrkstvns (talk) 13:57, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems you added a listing of La Paz (Mexico) to La Paz, Bolivia. –LPfi (talk) 14:41, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose everything looks right because you now look at the former (I did not check anything before writing my first comment, assuming you just left out a minus from the latitude). –LPfi (talk) 14:44, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh! That helps immensely! I've removed the listing from the La Paz Bolivia topic. Thanks for catching that! Mrkstvns (talk) 14:48, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was easy when I zoomed in on the outlying marker (for the La Paz I know), seeing there was a La Paz also there :-) –LPfi (talk) 17:45, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An award for you![edit]

The Silver Barncompass
This Barncompass is to show appreciation for your really great work on Wikivoyage! --Ground Zero (talk) 09:06, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! I thoroughly enjoy working with all my fellow WV editors here. Mrkstvns (talk) 19:00, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Hey I kind of hijacked your very valid proposal on Template talk:Warningbox with added drama, which probably scared everyone away, and I do feel bad about that. Legitimately sorry. Sometimes I just get triggered and see red, which is also the colour of these godforsaken warning boxes, ironically. Brycehughes (talk) 10:26, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Sorry it took so long for me to respond, I've been out of town for the holidays and totally disconnected from any electronics. No worries about the warning box discussions. I really appreciate your perspectives on the issue and was happy to see you making more forceful arguments against excessive warnings. I wish you the very best in the new year!
