Hello, Fretlessadam! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. Hello, and please read welcome, business owners and don't tout. I detouted the Gold Mountain Casino listing you added to Ardmore (Oklahoma), but you apparently didn't see what I did, and posted a touty listing for Black Gold Casino. We're all volunteer users here, and it's not our job to detout one promotional listing after another. Please do your part by reading the links I've given you and editing your listing accordingly before you repost it. Thanks.

- If you continue touting, your posting privileges are likely to be temporarily suspended, because cleaning up after you is taking up too much volunteer editor time. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:27, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Fretlessadam (talk) 18:28, 28 August 2015 (UTC)Hello, Ikan. Is this how I respond to you? I keep pushing the "talk" link, and it takes me to your page. I saw a post that said to reply with four tildes, but I couldn't find the link to make a post. I've reviewed the touting guidelines, and I think was I was missing was some language like "conveniently located" in my post(s). Is this what I was doing wrong? Thanks, Ikan! —The preceding comment was added by Fretlessadam (talk • contribs)
Your posting privileges, except on this talk page, have been blocked for 24 hours for persistent touting and ignoring this user talk page and edit summaries. If you continue to waste our time this way, future blocks will be of ever-increasing periods. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:05, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

- Hi, Fretlessadam, and thanks for replying. First of all, I will unblock your posting privileges. Secondly, I'm sorry if the language on my talk page is unclear. What it says is "please post new topics at the bottom of the page and sign the posts with 4 tildes (the ~ key) in a row". You type the message you would like for me to read at the bottom of the page, then sign it by typing 4 tildes in a row. Do that on this talk page, too.
- To answer your question about touting, there are several things you've been doing. One is that you use some slogans (you mentioned "conveniently located", which is one of them). Another is that you overdescribe the location of businesses — a street address and, especially, geo coordinates are quite sufficient to enable the reader to know where it is, and the distance from other cities or the regional airport is unlikely to be radically different from that of the town itself. A third thing is that it is unnecessary to repeat the name of the business in the description, let alone repeat it twice or more. I don't think that's an exhaustive list. The comparison of the "good" and "bad" hotel listing at don't tout#Marketers and SEOs should be helpful. Do let us know if you have more questions.
- By the way, in addresses, if the establishment is in the same town the article is about, please omit the name of the town, state and zip code. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:13, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the help! I'm replying to see if I can sign correctly :) Fretlessadam (talk) 20:16, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- It worked! :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:44, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Hello, and thanks for editing in good faith; your edits are much improved.
However, I'd like to remind you to please help us out by not including the name of the town in the address unless it's different from the town the article is about, and also omitting the state and zip.
Also, the "alt" tab in listings is for former names by which places are known or local-language names in the case of primarily non-English-speaking countries. Please do not copy the name or use some shortened version of the name in the "alt" tab.
Thanks a lot. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:26, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
Ooooh, okay! I misunderstood the first time. I'll fix some of those that I included the city twice, and watch out for that in the future. Thanks, Ikan! Fretlessadam (talk) 15:16, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
