Indefinite Block
[edit]So, after adding a link to Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) organisation and some info on the South Africa page I get a blocked account by @Ibaman for spamming? He probably saw my comment on @Ikan Kekek talk page, where i acknowledge my first text was maybe a bit too long and broad. Thus I shortened it.
I also mention that the 4 examples of FTT businesses are SME or non-profit & all accredited FTT participants can be found on the FTT website. I thought some travellers would appreciate it. FTT is now global but was founded in South Africa. And sustainable tourism is making headlines due to rising mass tourism, social and financial inequaly and global warming. Eventhough I like fastfood at home, me nor travellers I know care about visiting McDonalds, KFC or Domino Pizza when abroad, yet those get mentioned a lot on the page(s). But since some care about that knowledge, I'm not going to fight it.
Also in the 'Taxi' section I miss info on how to spot regulated taxi's/bakkie's. But Bolt & Uber do get mentioned (with 'incorrect' link).
Links to Nando, Domino's, SABmiller and House of coffee are fine.... but not to !Khwa ttu and other more authentic or cultural organisations?
Thats's a bit too much double-standards for my taste. Especially since Ibaman tells Ikan Kekek on his 'talk' page april this year : "As always, I trust your judgement."
Ikan Kekek reverted my 'first' addon because he found it too detailed. And I understood why, so I shortened it and reached out to him on his talk page this morning. 2 hours later he responded, but by that time I got a block for spamming? That is exactly the reason I took a break for a few years from Wikimedia contributing. Frankbel (talk) 13:00, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- Was this block accidental, Ibaman? I don't see how Frankbel is a spambot. //shb (t | c | m) 13:10, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- well, you know, this type of re-posting with a long list of links always makes a little trepidation out of my Don't tout and anti-spam feelings. I was trigger-happy here. My bad. The block has been lifted. Ibaman (talk) 13:22, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- No worries. Checked out some local WV versions and saw indeed lists of restaurants and hotels with some. If it stays like that I bet there will be need for deleting soon or swing-through wiki pages like 'Contemporary Artists Europe'. (I'll add : "more FTT certified organisations on the FTT website map" later today. . Frankbel (talk) 14:11, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
