Obudu is a local government area in Cross River State in South South Nigeria.

This area became really popular because of Obudu Cattle Ranch. It shares boundary with Benue State to the north and Cameroon to the east.

Get in[edit]

You can reach Obudu from either Calabar which takes approximately 6 hours by road or by passing Gboko, Benue State. The town area is accessible only via road.

It is about 110 km (68 mi) east of Ogoja township, and is about 332 kilometres (206 mi) from Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

By plane[edit]

The closest international airport is in Calabar where you can book your flight if coming from Lagos or Abuja, and afterwards take a car or bus to the resort.

Alternatively, there is an airstrip called Bebi Airstrip that also serves the Obudu Mountain Resort. Its runway is 18 km east of Obudu. The airstrip primarily serves as the aviation gateway to the Obudu Ranch resort.

By bus[edit]

Bus is the most preferred means of transportation if you are going somewhere far in the community. Although it takes a longer time to get a bus, you would definitely get one.

By motorbike[edit]

This is the most common means of transportation in this community. You can take a motorcycle to almost anywhere in the community although it's not really advisable for long distance journey.

  • 1 Obudu Cattle Ranch (about 30 minutes drive from Obudu town). It is located on the Oshie Ridge of the Sankwala Mountain Range at about approximately 1600 m above sea level. It is the most popular destination in the south-south region for tourists in Nigeria. Although the area is normally cold, the views are nice. It is surrounded by undulating mountain ranges, low hanging clouds and thick dense canopy forests. There are several places in this ranch you can visit. There are a canopy walk and a grotto. The cattle ranch was created in 1951 by a Scottish explorer who explored the mountain ranges and camped on the Oshie Ridge mountaintop of the Sankwala Mountains in 1949. A taxi from Calabar costs ₦6,000-7,000 (2022) whilst a regular taxi from Obudu township to the ranch costs ₦1000-2000.
