The Far South of Tamil Nadu consists of Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Courtallam — Famous for waterfalls, known as the Sap of South India
- 2 Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin) — the southernmost tip of the Indian mainland. Famous tourist spots like Vivekananda rock, Thiruvalluvar statue, beach, etc. present here.
- 3 Kovilpatti — known as the Matchless City of Matches, it's famous for its match industry. The town is famous for a sweet Kadalai mittai (Peanut chikki)
- 4 Nagercoil — St. Francis Xavier stayed here and built a church on land awarded to him by the Venad king. Headquarters of Kanyakumari district. Famous for Nagaraja temple.
- 5 Swamithoppe — a historical town with vast cultural and religious heritage, the religious head-quarters of Ayyavazhi
- 6 Tenkasi — famous for its numerous waterfalls
- 7 Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) — headquarters of the Thoothukudi district, is famed for pearl fishing, production of salt, fishing and related businesses
- 8 Tiruchendur — A famous pilgrimage site for Hindus located on the shores of Bay of Bengal. Sri Subramanya Swami temple is located here.
- 9 Tirunelveli — Headquarters of Tirunelveli district. The city got its name from the historic Nellaiyappar temple located here. The city is famous for sweet Halwa.
Other destinations
[edit | edit source]- 1 Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary — one of the most diverse wildlife forest locations in India. Several new species of plants, amphibians and insects discovered here are found nowhere else.
