Kanyakumari is the southernmost district of Tamil Nadu as well as that of mainland India.
Cities
[edit | edit source]- 1 Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin) — the southernmost tip of the Indian mainland. Famous tourist spots like Vivekananda rock, Thiruvalluvar statue, beach, etc. present here.
- 2 Mondaikadu — located on the coast this city is famous for the Mandaikadu Bhagavathy Amman Temple
- 3 Nagercoil — St. Francis Xavier stayed here and built a church on land awarded to him by the Venad king. Headquarters of Kanyakumari district. Famous for Nagaraja temple.
- 4 Swamithoppe — a historical town with vast cultural and religious heritage, the religious head-quarters of Ayyavazhi
Other destinations
[edit | edit source]- 1 Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary — one of the most diverse wildlife forest locations in India. Several new species of plants, amphibians and insects discovered here are found nowhere else.
