Yangudi Rassa National Park is in the centre of Afar Region, Ethiopia.

Yangudi Rassa National Park was proclaimed to secure a protected ecosystem for wild Ass considering its geological and archeological significances.

History[edit]

Established as one of IUCN Category II in 1977.

Landscape[edit]

Covers an area of 4,730km². There is presence of little rainfall because of its location in a semi-desert area.

Flora and fauna[edit]

About 230 species have been recorded here in Yangudi Rassa National park. They include wild Ass, Soemmerring’s Gazelle, Hamadryas Baboon, Gerenuk, Cheetah, leopard, Lion, Greater Kudu, Lasser Kudu, Salt’s Dikdik and Warthogs.

Climate[edit]

February, March, April, May, June and September are the best months for good weather. On average, the warmest months are May, June and July The coldest months are January, November and December The rainy months here are July and August.

The best way to get to Yanguidi Rasa is through Gewane, then from Awash to Mille which is about 284 km from Addis Ababa. There are Private tour companies from Addis Ababa that will be available to take you to the park.
