Way Kambas National Park is an Indonesian national park in the provinces of Lampung, Indonesia.

History[edit]

Way Kambas National Park is one of two conservation areas in the form of national parks in Lampung Province besides the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. Stipulated by Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number 670/Kpts-II/1999 dated 26 August 1999, the WKNP area has an approximately 125,631.31 ha.

Meranti (Shorea sp), Rengas (Gluta rengas), Kiara (Ficus retusa), Merbau (Intsia palembanica), Pulai (Alstonia scholaris), Aren (Arenga pinnata), Serdang (Livistonia rotundifolia), Wanga (Metroxylon elatun), Sempur (Dillenia sp), Damar (Shorea Sp), Keruing (Dipterocarpus gracillis), Puspa (Schima walichii), Ipomea cemara pantai (Casuarina equisetifolia), Ketapang (Terminalia cattapa), Nyamplung (Callophyllum inophylum)

Weekdays Rp150,000 (foreigner), Rp5,000 (domestic); weekends Rp225,000 (foreigner), Rp7,000 (domestic)

You can bring home ½ Kg of guava which is already included in the entrance fee.

It has an "elephant school", where elephants are trained. You can ride elephants and watch a show of them dancing.

You can feel the experience of accommodation similar to Bali because in the Gunung Agung hamlet, there are some homestay maintained by people from Bali that have lived for a long time in there. They are providing entertainment for visiting guests with traditional Balinese dance performance and traditional Balinese live music that is magnificent and feels authentic.

Stay safe[edit]

Over a period of 12 years, elephants killed or injured 24 people near the park. Also be careful of traps that could be placed by surrounding communities.
