Yes. Fox is certainly better now if you want to get up close and personal with some serious deep blueness and I've now added material to our Franz Josef article to make that clearer. The whole West Coast is drop dead gorgeous as long as you keep walking at 5.3 kph to keep ahead of the sandfly. Thanks Peter :) I'm still pretty new to Inkscape and muddling around with the union/difference/intersection tools, so if you have any tips for that, that would be great. I guess the denomination goes to show how complacency sets in after a star, which is especially bad for a city like Singapore that loves redeveloping. Hi Torty. I noticed your fantastic work on improving the districts scheme in Sydney. I've always felt that there were far too many articles about its suburbs, and that they should be merged. Rarely do international tourists ever visit a city's suburbs. When working on Melbourne#Metropolitan_Melbourne, I simply had four, all-encompassing articles for the suburbs that can point out the main attractions, mainly for local tourists though. From what I can tell, we create the new pages and then re-direct the old ones? It helps that the ones I intend to merge in are pretty sparse in the first place - not much for visitors. Any further district merging will be harder. But even after reading the source code, I can't imagine how to make it work :'-(

Should I start by entering an article name? But there is no search button to load data from the article I entered.

Or should I go to the article and manually copy/paste listings and press "Submit". I tried but always get "No results found", even for this listing which seems correct:

Yep, it's just copy and pasting listings into the textbox, haven't worked out how Joachim parsed the articles yet.

I'm assuming that this is Le Barantic in Rennes? There's a search box for city/country, so enter Rennes there, and then there is an option to search by either name or address. In this case, using the address to search is better. I find that See and Do listings have better results when searching by Name, while Eat/Drink/Buy/Sleep work better with addresses.

It's based on Mapquest batch geocoding API which is in turn based on Nominatim. geobatcher just sends names/addresses to the API. It's still glitchy because of parsing and the uneven geocoding requests (OSM should work fairly well in the more developed areas, but a lot of holes elsewhere). If it's not in OSM then it's easier to locate it on the map by hand (or add it to OSM directly). I'll start commenting the code, and maybe further instructions but I found it hard to explain, though your questions pinpoint some of the more confusing parts. -- torty3 (talk) 07:12, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful! Now I understand how it works. I will try to write a tutorial. Now a few improvement ideas :-) :

• When clicking on "Submit", first try with "Address", and if it does not work, launch a second request, this time with "Name". That would allow to remove the option boxes, thus reducing confusion, and saving clicking time for users.
• Automatically download all listings from the article whose name has been entered. That saves one copy/paste.
• After human verification, upload result back to WikiVoyage (I haven't checked the API, but I guess it might work if the user is logged in).
• Allow URLs like http://torty3.github.io/geobatcher.html?area=Rennes that would allow integration (for instance someone might write a page containing geobatcher links for all Massachusetts cities, making it easy for users to cover all article of the region they know). Hi there. I noticed you were changing the geo template, and now it clicks through to the map instead of the map sources page. I tried copying the geo template over to pt: (changing only the name of the missing-parameter category), but over there it doesn't work -- clicking the globe just takes you to the image page of the globe icon. The idea behind the "experimental" tag was that it's a way to encourage discussion about new templates so that creators explain why the template is needed and so that we don't end up with templates that implement undesirable functionality or that duplicate existing templates. In the case of the POI template, if you could just add a note on the template talk page as to why it's needed, and also note that the Geo template uses it, I would happily support removal of the experimental message for that template. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:03, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Peter, looking behind the scenes have been equally baffling and fascinating. For what it's worth, you and the community have been great and welcoming to new users and new ideas. Even with the expected inertia, there's been the new Main Page, pagebanners, listing templates among others, and hopefully in-wiki dynamic maps to follow.

I have a perfectly good base map done up for Singapore/Chinatown, but no listings as it was such a hassle looking them all up. I'm still amazed at all the work put into making beautiful district maps, and I think dynamic maps can work perfectly well in tandem, and cut down the time needed to make custom maps, such as those that need insets for example. Hi, I made some changes on the template mapframe on french wikivoyage and I copied the most recent js script from the english version. The previous version worked on all browser I dispose but the new one doesn't work on firefox 22.0. The english version works on this browser. No Idea where could be the problem? No problem for the pt version, although I haven't decided on whether to integrate it all so language versions would rely on a single up-to-date version from en.voy. All the translation is on the editor.js page, but you need to be careful what you change. They are set up as variables with the variable name in English and the string being the part you translate. If in doubt, compare User:Torty3/editor.js to pt:Utilizador:Texugo/editor.js and you can see what I changed and what I left the same. Texugo (talk) 19:47, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I have updated the listing editor code on pt: to reflect the changes you made here recently, but I am still finding a couple of problems. I wonder if you would be willing to help me fix it?

• Pt: uses the templates all on one line. I was able to get rid of the line breaks by setting all those newline parameters to false, which works fine except for two cases: it still puts a line break after the type parameter, and also at the end before the closing brackets. I can't figure out where to eliminate those line breaks.
• In lists which have items that contain only a name, when editing those items, the listing editor always opens with the fields from the first item in the list. See pt:Sacavém#See for example. This doesn't appear to be a problem on en: but something is different on pt, perhaps something I missed in translating it?

Hi, I tried to adapt the lisling editor to fr:voy (here is the js). I found a few problems.

• When editing a listing in a section, the listing type isn't the one of the section.
• Our listing for sleep is called se loger and I don't know how to managed the space. Provisorly I replaced it by a dormir redirect.
• Our section drink is called Boire un verre / Sortir which also makes also problem (but presonaly, I would like to simplify that title so maybe it won't be problem in the future).
• the check-in check-out fields aren't displayed when creating/editing sleep listings.
• the field horaire (hours) is displayed when editing voir (see) or faire (do) but not when creating them.

Hello Torty3! It is my message from the Pub. Numbers in articles printable versions have disappeared at 3 sites: wy/en (roughly 2-3 days ago), wy/ru and wy/uk (roughly 5-6 days ago). I know that ru and en users are working on this feature independently so the problem is somewhere outside (I think it happened after MediaWiki upgrade). You can reproduce the bug for example on Cologne page, there you can see colored square boxes with numbers. When you click in the left menu to Print/export and then Printable_version you will get Cologne article printable version without mentioned square boxes with numbers. Hi Voll, it shouldn't be a Mediawiki issue and I haven't made any major changes to the configuration for nearly a month either. More likely for the ru and uk case is that the numbers in the listing template was changed to noprint. And in fact, the numbers disappear that way in the article's printable version, but if you actually click on print preview, the numbers will show up (the difference is a Mediawiki/CSS bug of sorts). -- torty3 (talk) 11:57, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Torty, revisiting the discussion on Wikivoyage_talk:Deletion_policy#Deleting_empty_articles, would you have any suggestions about how to proceed with the replacement of the almost-empty-articles? I could just ask to delete a bunch of those articles for recreation, but I imagine they would just show up again in the search for almost-empty articles after they're recreated. Hi there. Yesterday I came across about 20 instances where someone had put an email for a listing in the URL field instead of the email field. They showed up in external link searches on yahoo.com, hotmail.com, and gmail.com, since the listing editor had automatically appended http:// to the front. There may of course be many other instances where the misplaced email was not from one of those three domains, so I got to thinking: would it be possible for the listing editor/listing template to check the non-email fields (or at least the URL field) for the @ sign, and then when it finds one, put the page in a Category:Email in wrong field? For the listing editor, I can add warnings but not categories. It would be worth asking User:Nicolas1981 for a way to grep the data like he did checking for missing http for urls. [[User:Nicolas1981/Syntax_checks|My filter] is quite basic: grep -v "url= " | grep -v url=http | grep -v "url=\/\/" | grep -v "url=|" | grep -v "fix url" | grep -v "?url=". Sure, I got the hard part done with, doing it hot. I hadn't realised before, but default gadgets do show for anons. Since the Mediawiki ResourceLoader automatically compresses Javascript files, it means that there are less files to load, so it should be faster (according to documentation anyway). Plus users get to disable the gadgets if they want to, whether because they don't like the look, or the scripts take too long to load. And as gadgets, they're easier to transfer between wikis.

For the listing editor:

1. Remove the importScript("Mediawiki:ListingEditor.js") code from Mediawiki:Common.js
2. Remove the importStylesheet("Mediawiki:ListingEditor.css") code from Mediawiki:ListingEditor.js
3. Add the following to MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition, this makes the gadget default.

* ListingEditor[ResourceLoader|default|dependencies=mediawiki.util,jquery.ui.dialog]|ListingEditor.js|ListingEditor.css 

1. Move Mediawiki:ListingEditor.js to Mediawiki:Gadget-ListingEditor.js and Mediawiki:ListingEditor.css to Mediawiki:Gadget-ListingEditor.css
2. Then create MediaWiki:Gadget-ListingEditor which is just the text which shows up in Preferences.

Hi there. I hear it was you that programmed the thing that makes the counters for the POIs in the article listings, is that right? I'm trying to adapt dynamic maps for pt:. The map part is supposed to start working in a day or two, and everything looks pretty good except the "other" listings (template:outroitem, attribute:outro). The count for them restarts in each section that has them rather than counting continuously through the whole article. Any idea what's going on? I can't see the markers in the map, instead I see white circles. English article Arnhem, Spanish article Arnhem. Please, Can you take a look and tell me what is wrong? Hi, I found a bug in the Listing Editor: When you edit a listing, that it's type is a color like "red" and "gold" and everything else, the editor identify the type as the type "see". example. Hi there. I was wondering if you could help with some weird behavior that has cropped up with the listing editor over on pt: As far as I know, it was working find for a long time, but recently I have found that:

• sometimes when the listing editor is opened, the editor box spans the full width of the screen
• on some pages, in certain sections, when the edit box is opened, it always comes up with the data from the first listing in the section. See pt:Ribeirão Preto or the Econômico section of pt:Sobral#Coma for example
• on other pages, most of the edit buttons fail to bring up the edit box at all. See pt:Presidente Prudente for example.

Hello, the last update is probably a bit incomplete. In mapframe the zoom does not work properly. In the lib directory are some newer versions. Also leaflet.js and leaflet.css are new. Wikivoyage in french has a new listing: Destination this listing don't use all the parameters as the others. I managed on the editor to show only the wanted fields but it's still saving in the code the all list of parameters. This listing also need as the general listing to be counted in several section. Hi there! I noticed Greek community tried to import listing editor/PoiMap2 templates without any result. I would honestly give a hand. Unfortunately the way how those templates work is over my mind so I need full support.

Hello. As of just now, it was 166 articles on tools for artmap.php?lang=zh, while it was 233 on wikivoyage-ev. Another admin there asked me about this and I agreed to fix. However, I failed to see how it does the updates on both the crontab and .bash_history. Right, I should probably make more use of the actual Tools Labs server. I've set the cron to download and update from http://maps.wikivoyage-ev.org/archive/w.zip every Monday and Thursday now. Hi there! Hope you're well! I have a question. I have been cleaning up the list at Special:WantedTemplates, and I've got the list almost down to only templates that are actually wanted. About half of the ones left that not actually wanted are being erroneously called for by the code for the listing editor at Mediawiki:Common.js, calling for non-existent templates in combination with the newline command, like Template:Eat\n, Template:Drink\n, etc. Is there anyway to change the code so that the system doesn't think we are trying to transclude non-existent templates, so we can keep those things from showing up in the list? If there is, please let me know how, because if we can just fix Mediawiki:Common.js and User:Koavf/monobook.js the list will be back to functioning perfectly again. First, thanks for the great work on the listing editor. This isn't a critical problem, but it looks like the editor didn't like a pipe character in an edit today - see [3]. Initial thought is because of the string splitting based on vertical pipes. I put a bandaid for the presence of one pipe character, but probably not more. Hi Torty - two questions for you. Per Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub#Are listing templates a problem on mobile phones? I'd like to enable the listing editor for mobile devices. Do you know if any other language versions have done so, or if there are any problems expected? Also, I'd like to slightly increase the size of the listing editor box so that the text size is the same as on the rest of the site (I'll remove the font-size:0.9em style so that it uses full size font). I'm running with that CSS in my local CSS and haven't experienced any problems, but I was curious if you had designed the listing editor text to be smaller for a particular reason.

Also, you may already be aware of these changes, but we've made a few minor updates to the listing editor JS - I'm not sure if you try to keep the gadget in sync across language versions, but you can see the history for the reasoning behind some of the changes. -- Ryan • (talk) • 07:54, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
