Don't tout

[edit]

Hello, Andrbac! Thank you for contributing to Wikivoyage, but please note that one or more of your recent edits has been reverted as it appeared to be an attempt to use this site to advertise or promote a business or service. Wikivoyage is created by travellers for travellers, and while business owners and employees are welcome to contribute, use of this site for promotional purposes is not allowed.

If you feel that your edits were incorrectly identified as promotional, please read Wikivoyage's guidelines on identifying promotional edits. If, after reading that guideline, you still feel your edits were incorrectly removed, please use this talk page or the talk page of the article where your edit was removed to explain why your change was not promotional. Note that it is very important that you discuss your proposed change before re-adding it since repeated promotional edits can lead to a temporary block of your account's ability to edit Wikivoyage, and in serious cases the business in question may be blacklisted from Wikivoyage. Also read WV:Goals and non-goals and External links#What not to link to: no links to other travel guides are allowed here. Thanks for understanding, Ibaman (talk) 15:15, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ibaman,
I think I have inserted a new contribution relevant to the topic discussed on the page:
for example, on the page "Cortina d'Ampezzo" there are many identical citations (Boarderline, Cortina Ski School, Alpine Guides Group Alpine School) to the one I had inserted and you deleted: that is, a supplier of tourist services important to the tourist.
in this case, these are Alpine guides (professionals who accompany clients in the mountains).
it is not another travel guide.
Thanks Andrbac (talk) 15:36, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
precisely, you are advertising your guiding services, you are using Wikivoyage as free space for your advertisement. Please read wbo as well. Ibaman (talk) 15:57, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
precisely also the other commercial subjects that I mentioned to you and others cited are promoting their offer, I don't see the difference!
I think all this is very discretionary Andrbac (talk) 16:27, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
"Jerry is touting, so I should be allowed to tout" is a bad argument. If others are touting, their listings should be deleted, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:31, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also, not only did you use promotional language, but you posted the same listing in more than one article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:34, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I can agree with the language if it can seem promotional.
in any case I point out that half of the contents of a tourist guide are in fact promotional... a hotel, a ski school, an adventure park (you pay a ticket), a golf club, etc...
they are all useful references to the tourist and it is anachronistic not to mention them.
I have published the same content in more than one article because it is a subject present in more than one place.
in any case I am not interested in the controversy, if as administrators you believe that giving information on the important services of a location presented in Wikivojage is wrong, no problem.
thanks Andrbac (talk) 16:52, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
If you don't understand the difference between merely listing and promoting, you shouldn't be trying to list. And it is not acceptable to list in more than one place, which you would know if you had ever read Wikivoyage:Don't tout. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:54, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
