Sub-regions

[edit]

Does this region need to be broken down in to an article for each province? Do not think there are enough city article to make it useful to do so. --Traveler100 (talk) 17:50, 10 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support - since the provincial articles were imported from the predecessor site in 2009/2010, the only substantive edits have been to add text that should be placed in the city-level articles instead. The provincial articles list 15 existing city/other destination articles, 11 of which are listed in the Marche article. Of the four additional articles listed in the provincial articles, three are stubs. Ground Zero (talk) 18:15, 10 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: Two subregions for this region might be optimal for now, depending on how the cities and other destinations divide up. I noticed a description of a place in the other destinations section of one of the articles that should be turned into a separate article, so add that into the mix. Which cities should go?

[edit]

There are 11 in a non-bottom-region article, and there need to be no more than 9. Here's the current list:

  • 1 Ancona — this major port on the Adriatic Sea rises above high cliffs; it has plenty of monuments, museums and viewpoints on the port and on the cliffs, and the beaches of Portonovo (European blue flag) and Passetto (with its caves carved on the cliff by fishermen)
  • 2 Ascoli Piceno — spectacularly located old town (that is older than Rome) with gleaming white stone and mediaeval towers. It has spectacular vistas of the surrounding valley and mountains nearby, and performs excellently as a hub for travellers heading into the Sibillini National Park.
  • 3 Cingoli — small walled city with many 16th-century buildings
  • 4 Cupramontana — capital of the white "Verdicchio" wine
  • 5 Fano — a fairly well-known coastal resort and one of the most important Adriatic fishing ports, with a first-rate cultural, historical and environmental heritage
  • 6 Fermo — historic city of ancient origins, it's a provincial capital
  • 7 Macerata — a small, laid-back city with very little tourist activity; it hosts the Sferisterio Opera Festival in the summer
  • 8 Pesaro — pleasant resort by the sea
  • 9 Recanati — town of medieval origin, unusually built along the ridge of a hill and with great views towards the Adriatic and the Apennines
  • 10 Senigallia — home of Michelin star restaurant Uliassi
  • 11 Urbino — attractive university town up in the hills

We should remember that the target should be 7, with flexibility provided to allow two more or two less. We have only 14 articles for the whole region, so 7 listed in the region article is enough. Based on the descriptions we have, I would cut: Cingoli, Cupramontana, Pesaro, and Senigallia. Ground Zero (talk) 10:35, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't oppose reducing the list to 7, though we could also consider a list of 8. Pesaro has a horrible en.Wikivoyage article, but I believe I remember that it's an important ferry port, and w:Pesaro shows that there are a bunch of attractions that should be added. I don't recognize the other 3 names on your removal list at all, though, and there are several other cities whose names I don't recognize on the overall list. The ones that are most obviously obligatory are Urbino and Ancona; Ascoli Piceno seems pretty notable. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:33, 4 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
