Sragen



Sragen is a regency in Central Java. Java's longest river, the Bengawan Solo River, flows through the fertile rice fields in the region. The archaeological excavation and UNESCO World Heritage Site Sangiran is located in Sragen.

By train[edit]

  • 1 Sragen Railway Station (Stasiun Sragen), Jl. Salak, No. 1, Sragen Kulon. You may book a ticket train from Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya.

Sragen is 30 km northeast Solo. You may drive through the national road or Trans-Java toll road.

  • 1 Sangiran Museum (Museum Manusia Purba Sangiran), Kebayanan II, Krikilan, Kalijambe. Tu-Su 08:00-16:00. At the Sangiran museum and site, complete information can be obtained about the pattern of early human life in Java which contributed to the development of science such as Anthropology, Archeology, Geology, and Paleoanthropology. At the site of the Sangiran site, for the first time, fossils of the lower jaw of Homo erectus were found by a German archaeologist, Professor Von Koenigswald.
  • 2 Kedung Grujug, Sendang boto, Soko, Miri. A small waterfall but what's interesting is the relief of the rocks around the water fountain is like the rocks on the beach. The rocks are patterned with curved lines, and there are hollow cavities like rocks. This waterfall is located on the Miri site which was a coastal area in ancient times.
