Sant Lluís



Sant Lluís (Spanish: San Luis) is a municipality on the tip of south-east Menorca in the Spanish Balearic Islands. The area is most noteworthy for its varied coastline, with fine sand beaches and cliffs.

  • 1 Church of Sant Lluis (Església de Sant Lluís). A neoclassical church. Built by the French architect Antoine d'Allemand (1679–1760), the 32-m-high bell tower is the tallest building in Sant Sant Lluís. The façade features a pediment bearing the coat of arms of the Kingdom of France and a portico with three arches. The central arch is the main entrance to the church.

In the centre of Sant Lluís, there are two large supermarkets, four bakeries, and two butchers. All the shops are on the shopping street near the church and the three banks.

In Sant Lluís, evening entertainment is usually organised in the hotels and some bars.

Among the drinks, gin is a legacy of English rule on Menorca. Gin with lemonade or freshly squeezed lemon juice is called "pomada".

The following grape varieties are grown in Sant Lluís:

  • White varieties: e Chardonnay, Macabeo, Malvasía, Moscatel, Parellada and Moll
  • Red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Monastrell, Syrah and Tempranillo
