Port Safaga

Port Safaga is a city on the Red Sea Coast in Egypt.

Understand

[edit]

Port Safaga is mainly a harbour city. It is located close to the resort city of Soma Bay a quit expensive place with lots of resorts. So, if you want to explore the region, Port Safaga can be a cheaper place to stay. It has one beach located on the north of the city with one diving club.

Get in

[edit]

By bus

[edit]

From Luxor, there are daily buses with several bus companies (including Go Bus) taking about 5 hours to go. The price is around 4USD (June 2025). The bus continues then to Hurghada. Even with Go Bus, you will probably be dropped out of the city centre, at the bus station located under the highway going to Hurghada. It is about 3km west from the city centre. You can then walk or take a taxi to the city centre.

By boat

[edit]

The city is linked by a daily ferry boat to the city of Duba in Saudi Arabia. This ferry can take foot passengers.

From Port Safaga to Duba, the price is around 80 USD for a seat and 90 USD for a cabin (June 2025). The ticket can be booked the same day. You have to go to the office located close to the harbour with your passport and you visa to Saudi Arabia. From Saudi Arabia, it seems a little bit more complicated. You can find information on some blogs.
