Durg is a major city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.

Durg sits along the east bank of the Shivnath River on the Chhattisgarh plain with some hills to the south and southwest. It is an agricultural center, with the huge Bhilal steel plant to the east. Historically, it was part of the Kosala kingdom of ancient India. Its name is derived from the Hindi term "durga" for fort, and it used to be a fortress from which the Marathas subjugated Chhattisgarh. The National Highway No. 6 (Mumbai - Sambalpur - Kolkata) is the major highway of the district and the train route is the main line of the South Eastern Railway midway between Mumbai-Kolkata.

Durg generally has a dry tropical weather which is moderate but on a warmer side in summer season. The peak temperatures are usually reached in May/June and can be as high as 45C. The onset of monsoon is usually from July and the season extends up to September, with monsoon peaking during July and August. Maximum, Average & Minimum Rain fall Of District Durg are 1477.2 mm, 1071.16 mm and 781.5 mm per year respectively.

Trains leave frequently from Raipur. All of the trains passing between Mumbai and Howrah have a major stop at Durg Junction.

• Kharkhara. Its major attraction is a Dam which is 1,128 m long and is located on the Kharkhara River. 
• Maitri Bagh. It features landscaped garden which is a joint initiative of Indian and Russian government and a Zoo. The highlights of Zoo are exotic animal and avian species, lake, toy trains and others. The musical fountain on the island in the artificial lake is a dynamic spectacle which responds to the music in a way that interprets the style and rhytmm of the musical performance. As the music plays, jets of water shoot in the air, twist, sway, pirouette, pulse, drum and skip with the beat - each movement lit by brilliant colours. 
• Nagpura. It is a site to visit exquisite Jain temples and Pasharwanath Tirth. 
• Taj Mahal (durg). 
• Tandula (around 39 km away). The prime attraction of this place is a Dam on Tandula River. It is an exciting picnic spot also.
