English: Designed and built in 1905 for the president of the Larkin Soap Company, a prominent mail-order sales firm and one of the largest retail companies in the country at the time, the Darwin D. Martin House is one of the most important works of Frank Lloyd Wright's early career, and marks a turning point at which the eminent architect began to develop his signature style into a more dramatic and confident aesthetic. The abandoned and decaying house was bought by the Martin House Restoration Corporation in 1994 with restoration work beginning three years later; the Darwin D. Martin House has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark and is now open for public tours.
