20 June is World Refugee Day. In 2023 there was a surge in the number of Chinese nationals entering the United States from the U.S.-Mexico border to seek asylum. Most of them have traveled north across the hemisphere, through several countries in Central and South America, and through many dangers, before finally being smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border into the United States. Why do they embark on such an unconventional path to the U.S.? What is the hope they are looking for?
