Good idea. I have uploaded a new file for the composition after the 2024 elections. Initially, there were 34 republicans and 16 democrats. After the election, the republicans gained a seat and democrats lost a seat (35 R, 15 D), but the resignation of Chris Cournoyer (R) and the election of Mike Zimmer (D) led the seats back to its 2022 composition, and then De Witt died, leaving 33 republicans and 16 democrats. I agree that everything here should be moved (probably to names like File:An Giang in Vietnam before 2025.svg. I'm not sure we should kill the old file names as redirects. In any case there is going to be a lot of cleanup on a lot of wikis that is going to be difficult in any case, and I would think that doing a set of universal replaces (to the new file name) so that they can see that they have an outdated map might be a good idea, and maybe a different set of names (an equally consistent, but different, pattern) for the new files?

A few questions:

• Are any provinces (or province-level municipalities) left unchanged?
• Has there been discussion on en-wiki and vi-wiki (or others) of what this will mean in terms of reorganizing content?
• Has anyone worked on what we'll do with the category scheme to keep the new and old maps separate?

I'd suggest having some sort of plan before we start moving files.

From Commons point of view, I would imagine that the first thing that should happen is to set up a decent category scheme. I would guess that Category:Former provinces of Vietnam should have a subcategory (call it "category X") for provinces extinguished 1 July 2025 (with all such province categories being subcats), and that any provinces that keeps a name but has its border changed we should at least have a subcat like Category:Maps of Thanh Hóa province before 1 July 2025 that would indirectly be under category X. There seems to be some problem in the SVG code of these files that makes a stroke object solid-filled and not stroked (at least as it renders on all the devices I have tested). This most notably shows as a big yellow shape covering the stripes on the shield, as well as a red shape covering the details on the medal in the 2nd file. Yet the files have not been updated since they were uploaded by Cataloccitan in 2017, and I remember it being fine when I saw it last year; this is corroborated by a Reddit post which appears to show the 2nd file without the problem. So I think it has something to do with different rendering methods, but it is still a problem and it can be fixed.

I believe, after some digging, that this problem arises because the style attribute of the <use> elements is being ignored for some reason. But simply duplicating the shield outline as a <path> instead of a <use> fixes the problem. So that's what I want to overwrite. Alisperic (talk) 12:54, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Wrong data used in the original pictures. Most importantly silesian is not a language but a dialect of polish/czech depending on the region. Polabian has bean dead for last couple of centuries. Also polish is not used in slovakia, ukraine nor belarus. Mietek00 (talk) 22:52, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

The Silesian people would disagree with you. Enwiki also disagrees with you en:Silesian language and Silesian has a ISO 639-3 registration code of szi. In fact, there is a Silesian Wikipedia. You are correct that Polabian is an extinct language. Abzeronow (talk) 00:55, 3 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I myself am Silesian and here in silesia i can guarantee you that no one thinks that silesian is a distinct language. According to the polish law it is a dialect not a language. And even if we would assume it is the map is still wrong. There is not any single place where silesian speaking people are the majority. The same when it comes to the kashubian language the map exaggerates the reach of this language. Also Polish is not spoken in ukraine (No poles remained there after WW2) in Belarus( Even though this country has a big polish minority they are predominatly speking Russian - 51% or Belarusian - 41%) nor in Slovakia (there has never been any big polish minority in this country). The situation is different when it comes to lithuania the map shows polish speaking area smaller than it really is. Also czech language is spoken by majority of people in whole of czechia except the most eastern point as thoose are terrains with big polish minority. The map does not count moravian as distinct language thus it shouldnt count silesian as situation of thoose two is basiclly the same.
