Nyala Airport is an airport in Nyala, Sudan (IATA: UYL, ICAO: HSNN). United Nations peacekeeping force UNAMID uses a separated terminal in Nyala Airport.

History

The airport was taken by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the Sudanese civil war (2023–present) in 2023. On 24 September 2024, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) launched airstrikes on the airport, destroying its runway, control tower, and offices.^[1] On 4 May 2025, the SAF conducted another airstrike on Nyala Airport, targeting RSF positions. The attack killed four Emirati military officers and injured six others, highlighting the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) alleged involvement in supporting the RSF in Darfur.^[2] The airstrike was part of ongoing SAF efforts to disrupt RSF control over the airport, a key logistical hub for the paramilitary group.^[3]

Accidents and incidents

On 3 May, 2025, a Boeing 727-30C was destroyed on the ground by an attack of the Sudanese Armed Forces. All 20 people on board, two pilots and 18 emiratis nationals, were killed.^[8]
