Practicalities
[edit]Avalanche danger
[edit]During the winter months, especially after periods of heavy snowfall combined with strong winds, there is an increased risk of avalanches in mountainous regions. This risk is particularly high on slopes above the treeline, but forested and inter-forested areas can also be affected.
Safety
[edit]If you’re unfamiliar with avalanche terrain, consider hiring a local guide or joining a guided group. Always let someone know your planned route and expected return time.
