Before uploading

  • All files must be compatible with our copyleft licence. If you are not the original creator, please be sure that you have permission to use the file here, and link to the source of your file.
  • Please select a compatible license from the pulldown menu below. Otherwise all uploads are automatically licensed under CC-by-SA 3.0


  • Images from Wikipedia that are licensed under the GFDL only are not compatible with Wikivoyage.


  • Use JPEG for photos. Use PNG for diagrams and maps, and include a vector-format source file. We prefer SVG, but others (Adobe Illustrator, PostScript) are better than nothing.
  • Image information must be in English, but feel free to add additional languages too.
  • In the "Summary" field, you must always include the following information by using an appropriate template from the box below:
    • Image description
    • Where the image was taken
    • Who created the image
    • When the image was created
  • If you are not sure how to fill in the information, please see How to upload files before you upload.
