Extent of this tutorial
[edit source]@Hanyangprofessor2, Piotrus: I would like to know if there's more information that this page doesn't cover, or plans to cover, that your students would benefit from having explained? Also, feel free to use this thread to give me general feedback and any questions about the process if you have them. ― Wauteurz (talk) 12:11, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
- Much appreciated, I'll read through this shortly. For now I'll save the link at User:Hanyangprofessor2/Student_assignments#Maps (in progress) Piotrus (talk) 03:29, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- PS. A guide to making color shapes like at Sanmenxia would be cool. Piotrus (talk) 03:31, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- I think I'm ahead of you then! Coloured mapshapes are explained in the (currently) final filled paragraph, User:Wauteurz/Dynmaps#Making dynamic region maps. It's only the GeoJSON method (i.e., by manually drawing mapshapes and storing them on Commons) that I haven't documented yet. Maplines feel a bit extra to describe when the template's documentation already goes into a lot of detail.
- As for the explaining you'll do to your class, I've divided the documentation into the kind of data you'd be wanting to add to the map: Points (listings), polygons (shapes and shades) and lines (transport). Those can be a bit monotonous to do back-to-back, but I'm not here to tell you how to teach your pupils either, just giving a heads-up. With how seldom lines are used, I reckon those are best skipped in class. They're only useful to huge cities and some itineraries.
