Hello and welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a look at Welcome, business owners and Project:Don't tout.

Wikivoyage is not meant to be a yellow pages, nor an advertising brochure, so please do not add listings for your business that have flowery, promotional language. Also do not list your listing more than once, and do not list it in a city other than the one it actually is in. Please avoid describing your hotel as being "located near prominent attractions." If it is across the street from a major attraction, say thatotherwise let your address do the talking. Do not list every mundane amenity your hotel offersno one cares about your desk chairs or coffee makers, or the "high speed" internet. Don't ever use the words "spacious" or "luxurious."

Please don't add listings that lack any useful information, in particular price ranges for rooms. If there is something unique about your hotel, please include this in the description, but the pricing is the single most important bit of information that you can provide. We know that your prices fluctuate—this why we use price ranges for a standard double room. Third, you have to add the hotels to the price-sort categories of budget/mid-range/splurge—it's just not ok to leave them unsorted (alphabetical order applies too).

Please do not format your listings to improve your SEO. Your hotel's name does not need to be repeated in the description. Nor do you need to include the city, state, and zip code in the address field (since the article name tells you what town you're in). Likewise, don't describe the town in your listingit should already be described in the rest of the article.

Back to the note about yellow pages. We don't want endless amounts of info-less hotel listings in our articles. If you want to add yours, make sure that the quality of your listing is better than the others present on the page already. That will increase the likelihood that we keep it.

Edits that do not follow these guidelines will be reverted. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:30, 21 June 2011 (EDT)
