"Caucasians"

[edit]

First of all, welcome to Wikivoyage, and do look at Wikivoyage:Manual of style and linked pages at your leisure.

I have to strongly disagree with your substitution of "white people", which is descriptive and would be recognized by speakers of the most elementary English, with "caucasians", which first of all should be capitalized but secondly, only properly means people from the Caucasus and is otherwise a remainder from the dark days of 19th-century pseudo-scientific racism, when the human race was divided into "Caucasoids", "Negroids", "Mongoloids" and so forth. I will start a discussion in the Travellers' pub and suggest you make your arguments there, but please stop making the substitutions, because they are all at least somewhat likely to be reverted.

Thanks.

Particularly don't change "white people" in articles about Malaysia and Indonesia, where "Caucasian" is unknown and the local term is "orang putih", which means exactly "white person". Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:51, 15 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
