Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

I did look briefly at your edits to Salem (Massachusetts); I don't want to start a witch hunt but some of what you've posted appears to contain text copied from other websites, including Wikipedia. Wikipedia is (like Wikivoyage) under a free CC-BY-SA licence, but it's not a good idea to take huge blocks of text from pages like w:Salem, Massachusetts, w:Salem Willows and w:Chestnut Street District and copy them into Wikivoyage. An encyclopaedia usually contains a level of detail which is excessive for a one-page travel guide to a small city, a user who wanted the Wikipedia article would read it there (so there's really no point in duplicating the same text here) and the licence requires that any re-use of Wikipedia's content be attributed to the original authors (the BY in the Creative Commons BY - Share Alike deed). I'm also concerned that pasting overly-promotional text into listings from primary sources is leaving the page filled with words to avoid such as "our friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere" which tells nothing as it's the owner's opinion of their own product. Lose the fluff and promotion, use your own words instead of copy-pasting from other sources, keep listings brief but include key facts like pricing, location and contact info. Please also make sure to read Wikivoyage:External links and Wikivoyage:Activity listings#Tour listings. Links to secondary sources (Wikipedia, newspapers, tourism sites, etc.) are not acceptable here, with very rare exceptions, and a Segway tour really doesn't need to be listed. I reverted (deleted) all your edits. We just cleaned up the article (though not completely yet), and while it's OK to add more listings, they need to be at least within striking distance of correct format. All promotional listings will be reverted on sight. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:06, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Images

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions, but please note that per Wikivoyage:Image policy image galleries are only rarely included in articles. Instead, the image policy encourages not using a lot of images in each article, with the preferred amount depending on article length, but generally around one or two per screenful of text. If you have any questions you can ask them on this talk page or in the Pub. -- Ryan (talk) 04:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your contributions to Salem. We don't use references on Wikivoyage, so there's no need to insert them when you add content. AHeneen (talk) 03:17, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
