Hello, Lturner! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:20, 29 April 2010 (EDT)

I just saw that you had not been welcomed. A bit late, but a warm welcome nonetheless. Excellent work on the Sydney articles — please keep it up.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:20, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
And well done with the Sydney East districts map. As you have used the standard Wikivoyage park pattern, I suspect you already know about our map drawing instruction pages, but if not, have a good read here. That article is a good source of tips, templates and much more. One question - what was the source for the trace of the map please? I suspect OpenSteetMap and if so, the map needs to credit that source as OSM is Creative Commons licenced and not public domain. Please let me know and I will mark up the file appropriately so you know how to do it next time. Many thanks. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:24, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
Thanks very much. Yes I followed the map drawing intructions page, and used OSM as the template. I'm not sure how to upload the Inkscape source file or credit the template.(WT-en) Lturner 12:46, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
Just upload the source file as a separate entity. Eg: Image:Sydney City East.'''svg'''. I will mark up the PNG template (and the SVG when you have loaded it) so you can see the format to use next time. I am pleased to hear that the map drawing instructions page was used! I completely re-wrote those instructions a few months back (with input from others).--(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:50, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
If you go to the edit dialog for the PNG, you will now see the mark up. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:56, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
Thanks, I've uploaded the SVG file. The instructions page is very good, thanks for producing it. I've never made a map and knew nothing about vector graphics, bitmaps etc, but managed to get there using those directions.(WT-en) Lturner 13:01, 29 April 2010 (EDT)

A few little suggestions for the map (if you don't mind?).

  • It will look more appealing if you tone down the colour scheme. The palette on our regions map template is tried and tested, and works really well. This country map of mine uses most of them (or variations thereof), so you can see the effect in-article.
  • Maybe add them main train stations? The icons for stations are on the region map template - just copy and paste.
  • I would label Circular Quay as it is so important.

All in all a really good job for your first map! --(WT-en) Burmesedays 13:25, 29 April 2010 (EDT)

Thanks all good suggestions, I'll make those changes. If there's anything else that you think would be useful on there, let me know.
