Aguilar

is a third class municipality inthe province of Pangasinan,Philippines.According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 39,529 people. The municipality as namedafter !panish governor"general#afael $ariade Aguilar, ho ordered the esta%lishment of an independent civil political unit on 1& 'uly1(05.

History The $unicipality of Aguilar had itsearly %eginnings as cattle ranch founded %y the !paniards. The place as )non then as !itio *alu%ad, hich as then still part of the ton of *inalatongan +no !an arlos-. n the estern part ere the /am%ales $ountains ith thic) forests and verdant foliage. t as hunters paradise ith deer roaming here and there ith an occasional ild %oar ma)ing an appearance. The grass in the plains ere succulent fare for fattening cattle and the ater from the %roo)s and streams clear and spar)ling. n the eastern part as the Agno #iver. At that time, there ere no roads ere yet esta%lished. There ere footpaths hich eventually roads providing access from one place to another. The river arteries constituted the main mode of transportation in the interior tons. Through these river systems, %oats sailed from the locos provinces in the orth southards to agupan, alasiao, 4ingayen and sometimes even as far as !an sidro e 4a%rador, !alasa, Aguilar and amiling. orth noting as the fossiliferous river %an) in amiling useful in ma)ing lime, hile mineral aters consisting of ferruginous and al)aline aters ere and are still found in Aguilar and $angatarem. As a thriving place for cattle and %ountiful rice harvests, it as natural for Aguilar to attract people from other tons to stay and settle in the place. The early settlers prospered and lived in peace and contentment. hen the !paniards in 4ingayen heard of this flourishing village, they sent !panish e6plorers through the ton of !alasa to visit the place. !ome !panish soldiers and priest ere left to organi7e a pue%lo.n time, the clamor to convert the settlement into a ton %ecame popular. A petition as therefore, filed ith the principales or municipal officials of *inalatongan to convert the village into a ton. The petition as finally favora%ly endorsed. the decree establishing aguilar as an independent civil political unit as issued on 1& 'uly 1(05 %y 8overnor 8eneral #afael $aria de Aguilar, after hom the ton as named. The decree in 4ingayen on 1 August 1(05. oever, it as not until 19 'anuary 1(0& that the Provincial 8overnor of Pangasinan as a%le to ma)e the trip to the sitio of *alu%ad, the site of the Po%lacion, to carry out the provisions of the decree. The 8overnor inspected the area, chose the most appropriate site on hich to erect the ton center and listed the people ho ishes to settle in the ne ton, together ith their places of origin. The greatest num%er came from 4ingayen, made up of 210 couples and &0 individuals from the :gremio de naturals; +native community- and 10 couples and 11 individuals from the :gremio de mesti7os; +mesti7o
