Bad Hönningen is a delightful little town situated between Koblenz and Bonn on the banks of the river Rhine.
Bad Hönningen, first mentioned in an official document in 1019, is characterized by its vineyards on the sunny slopes around Arenfels Castle. Its unique location in the mild and moderate climate of the Rhine valley, surrounded by the lush wooded hills of the Westerwald and the Eifel and above all its thermal waters make it the ideal holiday resort.
Stroll through the romantic lanes with their half-timbered houses, visit the "Hohe Haus", the oldest secular building in the town now housing the museum of local history or take a walk along the riverside promenade and enjoy the lovely scenery.
Or walk down history lane. The Limes, numerous castles and historical buildings - witnesses to the region’s rich history and culture - will take you back in time enabling you to experience history with all your senses.
But maybe you are looking for something that is so hard to find – tranquility and true relaxation. Bad Hönningen, a state approved spa resort for almost 50 years, has made it its priority to cater to these particular needs. The spa with its thermal waters, saunas and centre for physical therapy provides a unique opportunity to pamper body and soul.
And for those, who would like to explore this picturesque spot and its lovely surroundings on foot or by bike, there are a variety of hiking and cycling routes of various levels of difficulty.
After all, Bad Hönningen is the starting point of the Limes Cycling Route, the Limes Hiking Trail and the Westerwald-Steig, the latter converging here at the RömerWelt with the RheinSteig, Germany's loveliest long-distance hiking trail running along the Rhine from Bonn to Wiesbaden – in short – a paradise for hiking and cycling.
To round off an eventful day, enjoy the evening in one of the cosy pubs or numerous restaurants offering the culinary delights and delicious wines of the region and let your thoughts dwell on the day’s impressions while looking forward to the next day.......
