Image from Border controls. I'd rather have something like the Netherlands/Belgium image in Border controls ("going abroad for a coffee"). The EU/Europa/Schengen distinctions are confusing enough already, without using a symbol for one as symbol for another. --LPfi (talk) 08:53, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
In a way the European flag is the perfect symbol for Europe as it already has 12 "asterisks" on it, that represent the extreme complexity of every European agreement.;-) And well I can also live with that, if it is still self explanatory in banner-form... Proposed title sounds like it could be a destination guide and not a travel topic. In this case, the expanded title makes it clear that we're talking specifically about the logistics of traveling between countries within the Area, not about attractions and restaurants and accommodations. I understood that during the Brexit process, a separate (?) agreement was reached for Gibraltar, perhaps including Schengen membership of some sort. Does anybody know? –LPfi (talk) 09:09, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
This news story says the agreement "would allow nationals from Spain and other countries that were part of the Schengen area to cross freely into Gibraltar while those arriving from the UK would be subject to passport controls." —Granger(talk·contribs) 10:16, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think we should update the map to show Gibraltar as a non-EU Schengen area. SelfieCity, you seem to be an expert in this, so would you by any chance know how to do it? The dog2 (talk) 18:38, 8 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SelfieCity: I don't mean in EU or Brexit law. Gibraltar is joining the Schengen Area as part of the Brexit agreement between the UK and Spain, so do you know how to update the map to show Gibraltar as a non-EU Schengen territory?

An IP user added in the list of what papers to show in Requirements for a visa:
"certificates showing immediate family in your home country"
as showing evidence of your strong motivation to return.
I don't know, but I suspect that could be a two-edged sword: you might want to stay to bring your family, or stay to be able to send money home to your family. Are such documents advantageous in getting a visa? Or do the authorities request those papers anyway?
They are partially participating, as is stated in the article's Understand section. The Schengen freedom of movement applies only at airports and seaports, but land borders still have border controls in place. This is why BG and RO are green rather than blue in the map. --Ypsilon (talk) 18:20, 29 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
