Yunusari



Yunusari is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria. It's located near the border with Niger Republic.

The people of Yunusari are mostly Kanuri tribe, a community with a rich history linked to the ancient Kanem-Bornu Empire, one of Africa’s greatest and longest-standing civilizations. Over the centuries, the Kanuri have built a strong reputation for their skills in farming, trading and Islamic learning, which continue to shape life in Yusufari today. The administrative center of the area is Kanamma, a town situated close to the Burun Gana River along the border with the Republic of Niger. Covering about 3,790 square kilometers, the LGA had a population of 125,821 people as recorded in the 2006 census.

Although Yobe State has an airport, it is not operational, as of 2025. Travellers typically use Maiduguri International Airport instead, which is served by several domestic airlines connecting it to various parts of Nigeria.

By bus

Damaturu the capital city of Yobe State, enjoys good road connections with many towns and states across Nigeria. Numerous transport companies operate regular bus services to Damaturu from different regions. Road travel fares usually range around ₦4,000 from northern Nigeria, while trips from the southern parts can cost up to ₦15,000, to ₦20,000.
