Longue-Rive is a picturesque and waterfront municipality with a huge beach at low tide. It is located in the regional county municipality of La Haute-Côte-Nord, in the administrative region of Côte-Nord, in Quebec, in Canada. This locality is part of the tourist region of Manicouagan. It is located on the Route des Baleines and the Route Nature aux mille délices (gourmet route).

Understand

The Longue-Rive village is bypassed to the northwest by Route 138, which runs along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. This road serves the administrative regions of Quebec of Montérégie, Montréal, Lanaudière, Mauricie, Capitale-Nationale and North Coast. Longue-Rive offers various services to travelers on Route 138.

The population of Longue-Rive is scattered along the coast in small hamlets/places (east to west): Pointe-à-Boisvert, Rivière-Éperlan, Saint-Paul-du-Nord, le Petit-Paradis, Sault -au-Mouton, Les Romaines and Petits-Escoumins.

Geography

This municipality runs along the river for a distance of 27 kilometres. At the mouth of the Sault au Mouton River, the sandstone stretches up to 2.8 km at low tide or 4.5 km from the mouth of the Éparlan River. In this area of ​​the northwest shore of the St. Lawrence River, the sandstone extends from Baie des Escoumins (Les Escoumins village) to the mouth of the Portneuf River (at Portneuf-sur-Mer). The magnificent bay of Mille-Vaches faces the village of Saint-Paul-du-Nord, and is bounded to the east by the Portneuf peninsula which is topped by Pointe au Boisvert. The following points jut out into the bay: Les Crans Rouges and Pointe à Émile.

In the backcountry, the eastern shore of Lac des Cèdres is a resort area, with around 25 cabins built.

History

The municipality of Longue-Rive was established in 1853. The current municipality was formed by the merger of the villages of Sault-au-Mouton and Saint-Paul du Nord. The Saint-Paul church was built in 1901 in stones collected near the Saint-Lawrence river (along the "sentier des crans rouges), according to the plans of the architect G.-E. Tanguay from Quebec.

Longue-Rive is an appropriate place for observing migrating shorebirds. This municipality has on its territory one of the largest salt marshes in Quebec.
