Ringkøbing is an old small town of just short of 10,000 people (2026) in West Jutland on the Ringkøbing Fjord lagoon. Quaint small streets around a central cobblestoned town square.

- 1 Ringkøbing Church. It was built in the early 15th century, and its tower, which is wider on top than on the bottom, was erected ca. 1550. The church houses two organs: the oldest in the west pulpit was built by Demant & Son in 1861 with a baroque facade from 1633; the other from 1974 is by Frobenius & Sons. As the result of a restoration in 1995–1996, the church has a number of modern features, including an altarpiece by Arne Haugen Sørensen and a glass baptismal font.
- 2 Søndervig Sandskulpturfestival, Lodbergvej 44, 6950 Ringkøbing. From early May through October. Big annual sandsculpture festival right at the beach in Søndervig. New art theme every year. kr 90.
- 3 Enemærkets Hostahave, Schubertsvej 2, 6950 Ringkøbing. Closed Mondays and Fridays. Nice flower garden a short walk east of town. kr 100.
Nature
[edit | edit source]- 4 Ringkøbing Fjord. The lagoon is an obvious attraction in Ringkøbing. Hike or bike around the shores and enjoy the views and the rich birdlife. The Bagges Dæmning causeway immediately west of town is a popular spot. It is also possible to canoe or do watersports here in the summer.
- 5 Stadil Fjord. A freshwater lake (despite the name) and nature site immediately north of Ringkøbing. Hike the small Hindø island og take a dip at the small sandy Alrum Strand beach.

Edutainment park about nature, biodiversity and climate. No rides as such but plenty to see and do, also for kids (all texts are in Danish, English and German). 2 hours minimum, but if you bring kids and they like it go for 4 hours (5 if you plan to eat in the cafeteria). - 1 Søndervig. Go to Søndervig immediately west of Ringkøbing on the West Coast. It's a 20 minute walk or 10 minute drive. Søndervig is a tiny town in itself, but swells with holiday makers in the summer. Enjoy the vibe, the vast sandy beach, or grab a bite or a cold beer at an eatery. Several playgrounds for kids and a large water world holiday center (Lalandia).
- 2 Lalandia, Vestkystvej 2, Søndervig, ☏ +45 54 61 05 00. Water world park for the whole family right next to the beach in Søndervig. Many different activities, including bowling, dart, and of course various water sports. Buy a one-day pass or book an extended stay.
- 3 Ringkøbing Museum, Herningvej 4, 6950 Ringkøbing. Dive in to the history of the West Coast region. kr 85, free for children.
- 4 Ringkøbing Havn. The harbour is a popular lowkey spot in Ringkøbing. Several eateries and sometimes events. See if you can find the huge jellyfish mural.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Ringkøbing Bolcher, Nygade 21c 6950 Ringkøbing. Closed Sundays. Old-fashioned drop boiler, run by two sisters. Watch the workers make colourful drops or participate yourself in workshops. Many different kinds to try here, including sugar-free types.

If you are interested in wild nature, several good hiking trails are within easy reach from Ringkøbing.
- 7 Husby Klitplantage, Husby Kirke (Go north to Ulfborg, then turn west to Husby). Large nature site of dune heath and old forest plantation presenting magnificent unobstructed views across the vast, wild landscape of the West Coast. Three marked hiking routes. Marked bicycle trails as well. Several free parking lots in and around the area. If you come from Ringkøbing, the easiest access is by car to Husby Church in the south-east of the nature site by Ulfborg. It is a 30 minute drive. Make it a one-day excursion, or book a holiday rental in the area for an extended stay.
