Summary

Description

Turkey lies partly in Europe and partly in Asia. In the area of Istanbul the Bosphorus River is the divider.

The bridge shown here, linking the two continents is called the 15 July Martyrs Bridge.

It dates from 1973 and when new had the fourth-longest suspension bridge span in the world. In more recent years two further bridges have been built to cope with increased traffic.

The shoreline in the picture is the western, European side.
