English: During the Long March of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in 1936, soldiers had to cross a massive grassland among the swamps in northwestern Sichuan without any grain. In this case, leather belts would be eaten to prevent hunger. Ren Bishi, the then political commissar of the Second Front Army, ate a portion of his belt.
