Description

The Temple of Heaven, located in the southeastern part of central Beijing, is a historic complex of religious buildings where Ming and Qing emperors performed annual ceremonies of prayer for good harvests. Constructed from 1406 to 1420, this site reflects a cosmogony of great importance for Chinese civilization and has influenced architectural and planning principles in the Far East for centuries.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Temple of Heaven is a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design, symbolizing the relationship between heaven and earth, which was central to the Chinese worldview.
