Interesting Facts
Most people think that the sunflower name is based on the direction of sunrise and sunset. However, this is not the case. Blooming sunflowers face east and do not rotate in the direction of the sun. Nevertheless, the misconception that it faces the sun is deeply embedded in people's minds. Therefore, it is commonly called a sunflower. Wild versions of the plant branch out to many flower heads, but domesticated plants typically only have one.
In culture: These flowers were worshipped by the ancient Incas, and today they represent an eco-friendly movements.
Vincent Van Gogh made a famous series of paintings about common sunflowers.
