Summary
DescriptionSt. Nicholas Church, Demre 5863.jpg
English: Fresco with bishops and emperor in Ecumenical Council. The council depicted is possibly the sixth Ecumenical council (Constantinopel, 680 AD), which was presided by Constantine V ‘the Bearded’. The other six Ecumenical councils (325, 381, 431,451, 553, 787 AD) were convoked by emperors that are not represented with long beards in the Byzantine miniatures. The frescos must be dated around the 12th century, since this part of the church was built in the mid-11th century, and the city of Myra was completely deserted by the early 14th century.
