Model C parlor grand piano Astoria, New York, USA, 1886 Steinway & Sons, maker One of the last early-style Model Cs built before extensive redesign; its expressive key action is wholly original and in perfect condition. Gift of J. Bruce Tminello and Lawrence E. Kirchner ...
Completed on June 22, 1887, this piano was built in an era when Steinway &Sons was advancing the design of the modern American grand piano. The piano was a highly popular instrument in the late nineteenth century, and Steinway & Sons offered a diverse range of models to suit any setting. At over seven feet long, the rare Model C was considered a "parlor grand" and was the second-largest Steinway piano, offering professional tone and power in a size to suit smaller concert halls or large private homes. Before restoration at the Steinway factory, this piano remained in the parlor of the same home in St. Paul, Minnesota, for ever one hundred years. It features an 85- note keyboard and retains its original ivory and ebony keys.
