Description
English: The island of Olkhon is a unique geological territory with steppe, Siberian taiga and desert, as well as ancient rocks on the coast in the form of steep rock formations, picturesque bays and cliffs. The Baikal rift is the largest active rift in the Eurasian continent, where two lithospheric plates collide. Lake Baikal is the deepest lake and the deepest continental depression on the planet, with gigantic freshwater reserves, the largest in the world (20%). Olkhon Island, Lake Baikal, Russia.
Русский: Остров Ольхон представляет собой уникальное геологическое пространство, где на площади меньше 1000 кв. км. одновременно присутствуют степь, сибирская тайга и пустыня, вместе с выходами древних горных пород на побережье в виде высоких отвесных скальных формирований, живописных бухт, утесов и скал. Байкальский разлом земной коры – самый крупный живой разлом (рифт) всего Евразийского континента. У северо-восточного побережья остова Ольхон, прямо возле берега, в нескольких сотнях метров, находится самое глубокое место озера Байкал – глубже 1600 метров. Высокие вертикальные обрывы побережья круто устремляются вниз под воду на глубину более 1600 метров. Это и есть место раздела двух литосферных плит, место главного активного разлома континента Евразия.
