Summary

Description

One of the centerpieces of the private residence of William Randolph Hearst, is this outdoors swimming pool. It is decorated with the facade of a Roman temple as well as sculptures made of marble from the Dolomites in Italy. (Italy now bans export of Dolomite marble.)

In the present day, California runs Hearst Castle as a state park, offering several guided tours. The Neptune Pool serves as the starting point for all guided tours.

I am making Hearst Castle a stop during a drive up the Central California coast on my way to the San Francisco Bay Area.
