View southward, towards Carlisle; ex-Glasgow & South Western main line, (Carlisle) - Gretna Junction - Dumfries - New Cumnock - Kilmarnock - Glasgow, junction of the main line to Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart and Stranraer Harbour; the latter was closed (to Challoch Junction, near Stranraer) on 14/6/65, after which all traffic from the south to Stranraer has had to go all the way round via Mauchline and Ayr! The train is the 14.25 Carlisle to Stranraer Harbour express - by the Old Route, headed by Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45455.
