Summary

Description

This extremely well-preserved chariot likely belonged to Yuya, the father of Queen Tiye and father-in-law of king Amenhotep III of the powerful 18th dynasty of Egypt although it is not inscribed. It was found intact in Tomb KV46 or Tomb of Yuya and Thuya within the Valley of the Kings which was an unprecedented burial for a nobleman since the Valley of the Kings was mostly intended for the burial of Egypt's ruling kings and queens since the reign of Hatshepsut.

The frame of the chariot cabin is semi-circular; the floor lined with leather. The front, sides and back are decorated with red leather, while gilt leather can also be seen, decorated with rosette patterns. The wheels are each formed of two pieces of bent wood tied together, with tyres of leather. The pole in front of the cabin is about 2m long. This object is located in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Egypt.
