DescriptionBalahisar bastion for cannon located center of the fort.jpg
English: Bala Hisal (Ranamandal)- The Bala Hisar (Ranamandal), in the northern section of the citadel, is a solid structure and has almost no openings. It was perhaps once intended to be a vaulted audience hall, but was later filled in to be used either as a fortress or a keep. This is further evidenced by the fact that the now dilapidated interior is elevated high off the ground. The top of the solid keep can be reached by way of staircase located on the north side of the fort. The Bala Hisar has been preserved, as opposed to most of the building within the fort, due to renovations undertaken by the Adilshahi governors. Entering through the well fortified western gate, on encounters the Bazaar Street, two rows of small square structures with arched openings, sheltered by angled eaves. The chambers are roofed with pyramidal vaults. The Bazaar Street, lined with these chambers, probably constituted the commercial area of the citadel.
