West Hyderabad or Cyberabad (Telugu: సైబరాబాదు Saibarābād) is one of the newer areas of Greater Hyderabad, having developed along with the IT industry in the late 1990s.
Understand
[edit | edit source]West Hyderabad consists of the following area:
- HITEC City (Hyderabad Information Technology and Engineering Consultancy City) – the core of Cyberabad, full of IT office buildings, international restaurants and fast food outlets.
- Madhapur – a busy neighbourhood east of HITEC City. Home to Inorbit Mall, Shilparamam crafts village, granite rocks and Durgam Cheruvu lake.
- Gachibowli – a large corporate district with regional offices of Amazon and Microsoft, as well as educational institutions like the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and IIIT Hyderabad.
- Financial District – a misnomer that reflects the government's unsuccessful attempt to attract banking and financial sector companies, and it primarily houses software and real estate companies.
- Serilingampally – the suburb where first software companies set up their offices, and one of the three terminals of the MMTS.
Get in
[edit | edit source]By car
[edit | edit source]The roads in Cyberabad are wider and, in general, better. NH 65, the highway that connects Mumbai and Vijayawada, is the main road that connects Hyderabad to Cyberabad. This is the preferred route if your destination is anywhere along Kukatpally or Miyapur. It will take around 40 minutes in average traffic.
To get to HITEC city, Road #36 or Road #45 are the better options if you are coming from Banjara Hills or Jubilee Hills. From the heart of the city, the Shaikpet flyover and Old Mumbai Highway route that starts from Tolichowki is better.
The Nehru Outer Ring Road begins and ends here. Exits 1 and 19 will get you to Gachibowli and Financial District respectively.
By metro
[edit | edit source]The Red Line Red terminates at Miyapur, while the Blue Line Blue terminates at Raidurg, in Madhapur. The metro is an option for those who wish to travel to the centre of the city, but it is not convenient for getting around the district. There is no easy connectivity between Miyapur and Madhapur as the interchange between the two lines is at far-off Ameerpet, and there is no metro connectivity to Gachibowli.
By local train
[edit | edit source]Both Hyderabad–Lingampalli HL and Falaknuma–Lingampalli FL routes of the MMTS run through this district. Both routes terminate at 1 Lingampalli, which is also occasionally served by express trains. 2 Hitech City is another major railway station in both routes, and probably the best way to get to the core of this district by local train.

There is also an entire village where you can find realistic-looking sculptures of villagers carrying out their traditional crafts.
