See

[edit]
  • 1 Line of Trees (shortly after the turn of to Cabo Polonio). This amazing set of trees begs for a picture to be taken of them.
  • 2 Duna Valizas. The largest dune in this region.
  • 3 Monte de Ombúes (Park your car after Valizas river crossing, from where you need to take a boat.). A fascinating forest with extraordinary and 400-year-old trees. The boat trip there on the Valizas river and the Catillos lagoon is a picturesque and magnificent ride. In addition, you will get a very knowledgeable guide. U$450.

Do

[edit]

The beach is ideal for all the usual beach activities.

South of the village is an extensive dune area home to isolated freshwater springs. Depending on the route you choose, Cabo Polonio is 7-12 km away, a wonderful hiking destination. Along the way, however, you must cross a body of water that connects Laguna de Castillas to the sea. Due to the dangerous currents in the estuary area, you should never attempt to wade or swim here, but this is possible a little further inland (the water reaches up to the average person's chest when wading). Alternatively, you can have a couple of men take you in boats, who offer a kind of special taxi service (approximately €1 per person, one way).

Buy

[edit]

Local crafts. Especially during the season, many tourists offer their own crafts. Since they are mostly members of different alternative cultures, it looks like an ordinary tourist market without the tourist hustle and bustle, but with the hippie buzz.

Eat

Sleep

[edit]

There are many different types of hostels, ranches, and campsites. Renting a ranch near the beach is recommended to enjoy the tranquility of Barra de Valizas.

There is a youth hostel, and a lot of hostels, and rooms and small houses can be rented throughout the area. There are also several campsites available.

  • Camping Amaranto Valizas is a very small campsite where tents are very close together. In some cases, solar roofs have been installed (which also offer limited protection from the rain); otherwise, trees and bushes provide shade. The restrooms are cramped, but there is a fairly large kitchen and a common room with benches, tables, and hammocks. Camping costs around U$418 per person per night (Mar 2024).
